pls_mechanic: a free mechanic job with an OBD scanner, wear and 40+ repair scenes

A fully open source mechanic system where cars actually wear out. Mechanics diagnose problems with an OBD scanner and fix them through animated workshop scenes.

On many RP servers, mechanic jobs boil down to "press E and wait". pls_mechanic by PLS_SCRIPTS goes the other way. Vehicles track mileage and part wear, and skipped maintenance can damage other parts. Players simply notice it while driving.

What’s in it?

  • Wear model: 11 service parts with mileage intervals and 13 core parts, plus damage per impact zone, engine temperature effects and electric vehicle support.
  • OBD diagnostics: a report with part condition, fault codes and installed tuning.
  • Workshop: lifts, jacks and parts logistics. If a part is missing, the mechanic has to fetch it from storage.
  • Tuning: performance and visual, with a customer catalogue including live preview and quotes.
  • Economy: a parts supplier, itemised invoices, commission and crafting from salvage.
  • Field work: towing, jump starts, unlocking cars with a slim jim and five types of NPC missions.
  • Security: server-side validation, rate limits and protection against plate spoofing.

Requirements

ESX Legacy and QBCore are detected automatically, OX Core is partially supported. You need ox_lib and oxmysql. Inventories from ox, qb, qs, codem and core work, as do ox_target, qb-target or a built-in marker mode.

Our verdict

This is one of the most extensive free releases right now, and because the source is on GitHub, you can check and modify it yourself. That’s also the thing to watch: with this many systems, it touches your inventory, fuel, keys and dispatch. Test it on a dev server with your own stack first. On the forum, the author is already announcing a follow-up script with an "illegal" side.
